Moving files between your local (home or lab) computer and euler

When you access your e-mail through the MyUNH Blackboard (http://blackboard.unh.edu and clicking on "UNH E-mail") there is a tree of options on the left. One of these options is "File Manager" (located under "My Account"). Click on "File Manager" and the right pane displays the files that you have on euler. At the top of this list is a "Browse" button. To "upload" a file to euler, select the "Browse" button, locate the file on your local computer, select it, click the "Open" button, and on the browser click "Upload file(s)". The file is now on euler (as if you had just used FTP Explorer) and will be available for you to use when you log into euler. Files listed on euler have a download icon to the right of their name that can be used to move the file from euler to your local computer.

C Compiler Installation:

  1. Select the following link: DJGPP.
  2. Fill out the form and select the "Tell me which files I need" button. Most of the default selections are fine (you will need to pick an FTP site and an Operating System). You will be asked to download just over 13 MB of files. If this is a problem, you can get the download size to just under 9 MB by changing the following settings.
    1. Pick an FTP site.
    2. In the "Basic Functionality" section.
      1. Pick an Operating System (default is Windows 95).
      2. Select "No" for being able to read the on-line documentation.
    3. In the "Integrated Development Environments and Tools" section.
      1. Uncheck RHIDE.
      2. Select "No" for GDB.
  3. Follow the instructions on the resulting page to install the compiler (download each file individually by clicking on its link and saving the file).

jGRASP Installation:

  1. Select the following link: jGRASP Editor.
  2. If you do not have Java installed on your system use the "jGRASP JRE exe" button (Windows self-extracting exe with JRE 1.4.0.). If you do have Java installed on your system use the "jGRASP exe" button (Windows self-extracting exe).
  3. Using windows explorer or a DOS window run the downloaded executable to install jGRASP (jgrasp164.exe or jgraspjre164.exe).

C Compiler and JGRASP Installation Test:

  1. Download hello.c by clicking on the hello.c link and saving the file.
  2. Start jGRASP (double click on desktop icon).
  3. Load your saved copy of help.c using File -> Open File...
  4. In the hello.c window's toolbar, click on the green double plus icon (Compile and link file).
  5. In the hello.c window's toolbar, click on the red running person (Run application for current file).
  6. A DOS window should open and when you press any key "Hello World" should be displayed.
