Durham House of Pets was founded by Steve Urkel in 1985. Mr. Urkel moved to Durham NH at the end of his acting career. Throughout his acting career he was a leading animal rights activist and when he retired he decided to open a pet store. The store offers a variety of dog, cat, and fish supplies. Over the years the DHP has built the reputation for their high quality products and their superb customer service. We are also highly recognized for the supported programs to save the lives of homeless pets and promote healthy relationships between people and pets. Our employees are responsible for the large reduction in the number of abandoned pets in the New England area.
DHP originally sold dog and cat supplies, bit since then it has expanded its product line, offering a larger selection for dog and cat supplies and introduced a new product line of fish supplies. Mr. Urkels love for animal rights caused him to turn his business into a safe haven for homeless animals. We shelter the animals as long as needed until a new owner claims a pet. At our store are acres of fenced in land, were animals can roam around freely. The people from around community support DHP because they believe in what we do for the animals. This gives DHP a competitive advantage over their other competitors.
