Assignment 5: Hate And The Internet
My Homepage!
- Hate Speech is when someone says something about someone else in negative connotation, or in other words says something in bad faith towards someone else for whatever reason.
- I believe heavily in America's first amendment rights. I think that people should be allowed to say whatever they want. I believe that everyone has a right to free expression. If people were not allowed to say things, I feel as though that would put people in a place where they begin to be afraid to speak up.
- There should absolutely be a definition of what hate speech is. There is a large difference between hate speech and joking. It is important for people to realize the meaning behind speech.
- This information is important to put limits on, however I do believe that they should be publically viewable. The only limitations I would set is age limit provisions, this way younger kids cannot view the information.
- I do not think that creators of these websites should be held accountable. Moot for example, the owner of 4chan, created his image board for the purpose of exchanging pictures. If someone does something that breaks the law on the website, it is not Moot's responsibility to take the blame.
- I do advocate for the protection of the youth. Young children should not be seeing certain things that are out on the internet. A good method at stopping children is what Youtube does. Youtube, offers a system where they make users who are over 18, validate their age, and after doing so they can view the 18 and older videos.
- There should absolutely be a distinction between what is legal on-and-off-line. There should be clarifcations, so that there is no grey area when people get in trouble for doing something illegal.
- There shouldn't be a distinction between the two. They both contain explicit material, and if one of them is unacceptable, the other shouldn't be either. This goes with what I said in the last question, there should be no grey area.
