Motivation For This Project

Through this website I want to raise awareness about how some minority females/females in general feel at UNH. It would be great for others to have more of an understanding. I want to help incoming and current women feel comfortable and accepted at UNH. I want them to be able to get advice and see what resources they have for dealing with the feelings that they have at this school. I felt pretty lost and alone at the beginning of my first semester at UNH. I believe that the reason I felt this way was that I felt like the odd one out all the time. From time to time, I still struggle with the feeling of being an outsider, but it is getting better. I do not want others to feel like they are the only ones going through this.

I will speak about the struggles and what may come in their educational career at this school. Once I speak about the troubles, I am going to talk about how the experiences at this school empower us and make us stronger. By giving information of my own experiences, hopefully minority women and any woman that needs guidance will feel like they are not alone. I will also speak about ways to overcome the feeling of exclusion and differences. Once I tell people about what may come (the good and the bad), I am going to let them know about the resources on campus that can help. I will also have a section where the audience can ask me questions.

I am a student that is experiencing all this right now so I can help with any newer students that might go through it in the future. I plan on also including the opinions of others (with their permission) on my Web page so that the audience sees different perspectives.
