TOP TEN THINGS THAT POPPED INTO MY MIND OF AS I WATCHED "FALLEN ANGEL"
10) Scully is described as enigmatic by Max as in they (everyone who is
watching them) don't know what to think of Scully or what her position is
on the X-Files and Mulder's work. Little did the powers that be know what
a mistake it was to assign her to the X-Files, since she has helped him
out more than they could ever imagine.
9) We get the classic Mulder ditches Scully routine and she has to come
and rescue him. Also, Mulder gets the look from Scully of here we go
again of you going off without thinking about it. I can just imagine
Scully getting a call in the middle of the night telling her to go pick up
her rogue partner Wisconin.
8) Also, we get the classic first season routine where Mulder will see the
weird occurrence while Scully is conveniently not around to see it. Ahh,
the good old days.
7) Wondering if they will screw up the upcoming two parter like they did
with "Tunguska/Terma". The interesting part will be if the first part is
excellent like "Tunguska" was only to be brought down by the unbelievable
leaps of logic we are asked to believe in "Terma". One major plus for
"Fallen Angel" was it made sense.
6) Scully making Mulder prove everything he says is going on, and good old
Scully going along with the government line since she hadn't quite learned
not to trust the government. Those young and innocent days for Scully are
long gone.
5) The government coming up with the lamest explanation of what was really
out there to Scully, and to the general public. It's as if they want
people to question what is really out there in typical government
incompetence. I guess the big brains couldn't think quick on their feet
for a believable explanation of what was out there.
4) Mulder conveniently has on file those pictures of the women with those
markings behind their ears. Mulder's always prepared for the unexpected
even when he's in a rush to get from point A to point B he packs
everything.
3) Mulder is special not only to Deep Throat who prevents him from being
kicked out of the F.B.I., but to the alien who fries everyone else in its
path except Mulder. I guess Mulder appeared non-threatening to the alien
even though he was trying to prevent Max from being taken and had his gun
out. Maybe this will be explained in the upcoming two parter. Nah, I
only except to be more confused and more convinced they don't know where
they are going in these mythology episodes.
2) Mulder and Scully at the Grand Inquisition of the F.B.I.. We see
Scully doing her best to defend Mulder's actions which only ends up
deepening her loyality to him since she knows the government was trying to
cover up something, but she doesn't believe it is an alien space craft.
Mulder giving up trying to defend himself when he realizes they aren't
interested in the truth, only the lies. I just loved that scene. Compare
it to Mulder's rant about the truth to the Congressional Committee in
"Terma" and you can see why it made a bigger impact.
and the number one thing to pop into my mind during "Fallen Angel":
1) Mulder gets beat up not once, but twice in this episode. First he gets
whacked by a rifle butt so he ends up with a nice red mark on his face
with a little swelling. The second time the alien throws him a few feet
to twist his ankle so we get a nice limping Mulder. Nothing like Mulder
getting beat up to make my day.
