Homeworks

You should expect a homework assignment a week. It will generally be assigned on a Tuesday and will be due on the following Tuesday. Homeworks can only be handed in in class. If you can't be in class, hand it in the following class with a valid explanation and it won't be considered late. Assignments passed in the following class are considered late with a 20% penalty. Assignments passed in after will receive a 0.

Quizzes

There will be three quizzes. See the calendar for dates. The first quiz will focus on HTML, the second will focus on CSS and the third will focus on XML and XSLT. When I say "focus" I mean most of the questions will be about that area, but the questions will not be limited to that area.

Being There aka Class Participation

I understand that not everyone feels comfortable talking in class and not everyone will be on top of the material all the time. Saying that, everyone can contribute to the class and you will be expected to. Contributing to class starts with being there.

Academic Honesty

In this class, a zero-tolerance approach will apply to infringements of academic honesty, including any cases of plagiarism. Such cases will be handled in a way that is consistent with UNH policy. A penalty of failure in the course as a whole will be applied. If you have any questions about the policy, please ask me or refer to the handbook, Student Rights, Rules, and Responsibilities, pp. 41-43.

I encourage you to study in groups for the quizzes, but the homework is not a group effort, but should only reflect your own work. Asking students to help you with your homework is cheating. Both for you and the person who is helping you. If you have questions you should ask your TA or ask me. A lot of time questions can be answered by email. If you do ask a question by email, please cut and paste your code so that we can better understand where the problem lies. Of course, some problems can only be helped face to face.

04.212 (fs) Student Use of Electronic Devices in the Classroom. (Reproduced from Rights and Responsibilities)

Regarding the policy on cell phone/PDA/pager/digital music player/laptop/other electronic device use during class, students may not use cell phones, PDAs, pager, digital music players (like IPODS), laptops and other electronic devices during class unless designated by the course instructor. If use of any of these items is permitted by the course instructor, these items are not allowed to be used for non-class activities. If you, the student, have a learning disability that requires the use of one of these items, you must provide evidence from the Disability Student Services office (DSS), to inform the course instructor of this situation so that he or she can accommodate your use. Also, if you need to leave a cell phone on for emergency situation, you should inform the course instructor at the beginning of the class session as well.

Disability Services

If you are a student with a documented disability who will require accommodations in this course, please register with Disability Services for Students in the Memorial Union Building, Room 118 (862-2607) for assistance in developing a plan to address your academic needs.
