Assignment 1 Grading

The total assignment was worth 22 points.
Here are some grading details:

Note: Each e-mail should contain the appropriate information in the subject field as well as your correct section number (eg., CS403_01 Assignment 1A followed by your name). Also, no credit will be given for e-mails with a time-stamp after the due date and time of 01/30/2009 21:00:00. If your assignment was late, an * appears next to your total points.

  1. Part 1A was worth 12 points.
    1. (1 point) 1 point was deducted for not indicating your code for posting grades. I will post your grade for this assignment using the last 4 digits of your student id number but then you will need to contact me so that I can change that to something else. If you created a code that was longer than 6 digits, I truncated your code to the first six characters.
    2. (3 points) If you did not create a signature, 3 points were deducted (I considered anything longer than just your name a signature and it should appear dimmed when viewed with Webmail). If you included some ascii art in your signature, I did not deduct any points if it appears distorted. However, you should try to correct it (or see us for help).
    3. (2 points) My policy about plagiarism and cheating is that it is not tolerated and the consequence is typically an F for the course.
    4. (2 points) The dates of our three exams are:
      • Exam 1 - 02/24/2009
      • Exam 2 - 03/31/2009
      • Exam 3 - 04/30/2009
    5. (2 points) There are seven homework assignments and at the end of the semester the lowest homework grade is dropped; the remaining six homework grades are averaged together and that represents 25% of the final grade in the class.
    6. (2 points) My policy about late homework is that no late homework is accepted.
    7. Note: If you did not include a Subject in your e-mail at all, I deducted 1 point. If you did not include the required subject text, I deducted .5 points.
  2. Part 1B was worth 10 points.
    1. Up to 5 points were deducted for an insufficient summary of the Ellen Goodman article A Snail Mail Tale and/or not providing your opinion about the topic.
    2. Up to 5 points were deducted for an insufficient description of what role will the Internet (in particular, text messages, e-mail, and the WWW) play now that President Obama is in office and your opinion if it is a good thing or not.
    3. Note: If you did not include a Subject in your e-mail at all, I deducted 1 point. If you did not include the required subject text, I deducted .5 points.

Any problem with this assignment? E-mail Dan (Grader) if you have a question about the grading of part A and Danni (TA) if you have a question about the grading of part B. Please try to determine why points were deducted by looking at your CC copy of the homework before contacting us!
