El Salvador |

| This past spring, I had the privelage of joining the
Army Guard on a humanitarian mission to El Salvador. Being a group of medical personnel, we went in to several villages to set up small clinics to treat patients from surrounding villages. It was a very rewarding trip, and gave each of us a new found perspective on our lives here in the United States. The country is poor and the villages poorer but the spirit of the people is absolutely amazing. The appreciation for what little we had to offer helped us to put aside our feelings of providing inadequate care and helped us to focus on the fact that no matter how little it felt we were providing, we were still helping every person who waited in that line. There were days when the line would be almost a mile long when we arrived to set up, but we never had to turn anyone away, and by the end of our tour we still had enough supplies left over to donate to a couple of local clinics. My favorite village was the one where one of the stands offered papas fritas known to us as French Fries!! During the first week of our tour, Lori Duff from the Concord Monitor© joined us in order to publish an article about our trip. |
