The horizontal lines starting at the top represent the low E string and stop at the bottom with the High E string. The letters in boxes above each line correspond with the correct note on each fret of the guitar. The frets are the vertical lines starting from left to right. They represent the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, frets continuing until after the initial letters of E, A, D, G, B, and E. After the twelve fret on a guitar the notes are repeated in the same pattern.
