What to Leave and Bring Behind! | Breathtaking Photos | Links
Hawaii, located on an archipelago and surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, is an island that is absolutely to die for. Hawaii as a whole is just one big island, however, a Hawaiian Island Chain surrounds it, and that is made up of hundreds of islands that are spread over 1,500 miles. The main island on this chain that is quite popular to tourists is Maui.
Being one of the most popular islands in the Hawaiian Island Chain, Maui is widely and historically known for all of the first inhabitants that had a great love for the island and cared deeply for their other fellow inhabitants. One of these inhabitants had the name of Maui, which is where this sector of the island received its name. One of the traditions that was present back then and is still present now is lighting fires and fishing. To the current inhabitants, it is almost like a ceremony and they take it pretty seriously, even though they try to have fun with all the tourists while it is occurring.
On a more personal note... Going to Hawaii was one of the best trips I have ever been on. The cultural aspects, as listed before, make visiting the island so much better, mainly because I was able to participate in actually everyday Hawaii life. Events like this cause it to be more than just some tropical vacation. However, the tropical and relaxing fun should not be ruled out at all. All of the warm sand, clear blue water, and endless amounts of palm trees causes you to be completely stress free when visiting!
Aloha, Aloha!
As a side note, it is important to be extremely respectful when someone greets you with the term aloha, mainly because this word has a variety of deep meanings, such as affection, love, peace, compassion, and mercy. Wikipedia
