Training your dog

Dogs are born the same way as us; innocent and helpless. It is your job as the owner to mold them into the type of dog you want. This must be done through calm-assertive training. You have to teach your dog to learn to trust you, and from then on you must remain your dogs leader.

There are three basic commands that your dog must learn, and once these are mastered the rest should come very easily:

  1. Sit.
  2. Stay.
  3. Come.

Adopting an older dog

Training has the potential to be much more difficult when you make the decision to adopt an older dog. These dogs have already had quite a bit of life experience, and it may be difficult to get them to overcome some of the bad habits they may have picked up in whatever environment they were in. On the other hand, sometimes adopting an older dog can be better for a less experienced owner, because sometimes these dogs have already been well trained. The hard work has already been done!
