Puppy mills mass produce dogs for profit's sake, ignoring the basic needs of the dogs. As soon as female dogs have the ability to reproduce, they are mated as many times as possible until they are no longer able to bear puppies. At that time, they are usually killed, as they are no longer of any use. All dogs are kept in cages with uncomfortable wire floors that are much to small for even one dog, let alone the five or six dogs that are piled into one. The dogs are not socialized, exercised, or fed even remotely close to properly. The puppies that are healthy enough to survive (which usually is far from healthy) are then shipped off to pet stores across the country, where they are again treated poorly, and then purchased by people who ultimately put these dogs in shelters because of the huge amount of issues they carry.
