Introduction

I have been a huge dog lover my entire life. There has never been a time period that my family has not owned a dog or two, and I will never have it any other way. With this website, I plan to introduce only a few of the larger breeds that I have either owned or encountered in my lifetime so far, which will break down as follows:
1st: Huskies
2nd: German Shepherds
3rd: Golden Retriever
4th: Labrador Retriever

Be sure to keep the following in mind:

How much exercise could you dedicate to the dog?
Can the dog handle being alone, or would you need two?
What is your family like? Which dog would be the best fit?

Husky

Huskies are my favorite. I had a Malamute Husky named Keto (shown ←) that was one of the greatest dogs we've owned. Huskies are so widely known for their incredible strength, the term "husky" is now often used to describe people of impressive strength. Huskies need a alot of exercise, and are very good at keeping their owners in shape. Perhaps no other breed has done more to keep his owner in shape than the Siberian. How many hearty individuals would have been willing to trek through knee deep snow with the temperature at -10 ° F. before they owned that Siberian? Husky is somewhat of a broad term for a wide variety of dogs that were previously used as sled dogs and are now kept as pets. A few examples of the different varietys include Malamute, Siberian, and Samoyed. Before adopting a Husky, here is some valuable information that an owner must know, by Charles Kassotis:

The breeding of the Husky makes them an excellent choice when groups of dogs are used. They were trained to work in teams to pull sleds, and that training has become part of their nature. That’s not to say that they don’t also bond with their family. In fact, Huskies are often chosen for companion dogs because of their intense loyalty. One thing to remember about the Husky is that the coat on this dog is very heavy – a fact that allowed it to survive in the cold Northern regions. But that coat also makes it less-than-ideal for hot climates. If you do have a Husky in a hot region, you’ll need to be careful that it has the opportunity to stay cool, especially when temperatures become overly warm. These dogs are highly susceptible to extreme heat.

Clearly, this dog definitely needs a huge share of H2O.

German Shepherd

I am also a huge fan of German Shepherds, as I also owned one, named Mariah, at one time that was one of the most well-mannered and well-behaved dogs I've come across...she could also pull off some great tricks, especially if it involved a frisbee! German Shepherds are known far and wide for their exquisit beauty. Their long fur and beautiful eyes can reach deep into the heart of any dog lover. GSD's can be very skiddish around strangers, but once it becomes familiar enough with a person, they are one of the most affectionate and intelligent breeds around. It is important to keep in mind that A German Shepherd is naturally protective and territorial which is something to bear in mind if you have lots of visitors to your house when careful introduction may be required to assure your pet that the visitor is not a threat to his family.

Golden Retriever

I am less familiar with this breed, as I have never owned one, but anytime I have had the oppootunity to spend time with one it has always been a wonderful experience. With their excellent temperments and beautiful coats, Golden Retrievers are known to easily captivate anyone interested in adoption that a Golden Retriever is the dog for you. They are also very smart dogs, easily trained, and are generally very good with other dogs and people of all ages.

Labrador Retriever

I have never personally owned any type of this breed, but have been surrounded by them my entire life. Many of my close friends have owned them, as they are a very popular breed. This breed comes in three different colors, which include the following:

Labs were originally seen alongside fishermen in Newfoundland, helping their owner to pull in nets as well as other duties. Perhaps this is why they are among the most popular breeds seen in American today!

Addition Information & Tips

Each of these breeds is very unique. When adopting a dog, it is important to look up information about various breeds that seem appealing to learn if they are right for your family. Here are some important tips in order of importance that should be taken care of before adopting a dog.

  1. Gather as much information as possible about various breeds that seem interesting to you and your family.
  2. Once a specific breed has been chosen, determine whether you would rather rescue a dog or find a breeder.
  3. If rescueing, petfinder.com can be very helpful. If looking for a breeder, breeders.net would be useful.
  4. Be careful of puppy mills, farms that mass produce puppies simply for the money, while horribly mistreating and often killing dogs.
