Assignment 4a CS403 Section 1 - Brendan Lawrence

Go Back Home

Theme

My final project is going to be an informative site about Boston, Massachusetts. I plan on including a brief history of the city, popular attractions, local sports teams, and some other interesting facts about Boston. This site will be helpful to people who are planning on visiting the city, or anyone in general who would like to just get information. Some of the information will be organized by location, the different sections of Boston. For each part of Boston, I will give a few examples of restaurants and hotels to stay in.

There are many fun activities to do in Boston, whether spending a few nights in the city, or even just the day. My website will give people ideas on what they can do and a price range on how much it should cost. For the history of Boston I will give a brief summary of some of the major events that have taken place in the city over the years. I plan on showing a timeline with these different events on them so viewers can make an approximate frame in time on when they occured. There also will be links available for people buy tickets for sporting events, museums, concerts, plays, and other family events. There is a pretty good nightlife in the city that would be appealing to a lot of the younger crowd, and I will list a few of the popular clubs and bars.

Goals

I am expecting great things for this site, I want viewers to learn about the city of Boston and what it has to offer them. My audience includes a wide range of people, from current Boston residents to anyone interested in the city or planning on visiting. Since I am covering some of the history, I will be referring back a long time ago, but the majority of the site will be what Boston is like in the present day. The information will most likely have to be updates every few weeks or so, changing upcoming events and prices when necessary. A lot of research will be needed in order to make my historical section accurate, as well as most of the rest of the site. There will be images all throughout, and maybe even a short clip. I am not planning on having any expenses for this, and it won't be bringing in any money either. There will be though, ways for people to purchase tickets from given links as stated before. As a requirement for the project, I have to have at least 2,500 words spread throughout the website. I want to make sure readers enjoy everything that I put on the site and not let them get bored with too much wordiness in particular sections. The final completed site must be finished by May 5th, but I plan on finishing well in advance so I dont have to stress about it and I can take time when editing.

Navigational Scheme

For my navigational scheme I think that the hierarchical one. It seems the most fitting for my website, since the main subject is Boston and there will be many different topics off of that.
