Group 9: Anonymity on the Internet

Having the freedom and option to be anonymous is very important. Anonymity gives everyone the equal opportunity to express themselves. People won't have to worry about the judgments or criticisms of others, and they are able to easily express their own thoughts and ideas. People can use it to share, gain, and educate each other with the different variety of knowledge they know. People might be afraid to share their ideas and feelings when they are not anonymous. By having the opportunity to truly express your thoughts is what makes our country a true democracy.

There are people who take advantage of the freedom we have today. But there will always be people out there that will turn a good thing around and ruin it for everyone. Charities are meant to help the less fortunate, and there are people out there who make up fake charities to make money for themselves. We are not going to start banning charities just because a few people are using it for scamming money. Having the freedom to be anonymous is a great thing where it gives people the courage to speak up without having to worry about being judged or criticized.

Anonymity is one of the most important protections against possible government power. The government in China for example, blocks anything negative that are said about them. They control the peoples' speech, and what they can publish. Anonymity gives the public the courage to speak up against the government about true justice.

I do believe that people should have the right to use tools to protect them. If they don't feel comfortable sharing their information with their name presented on the material, then they should have the option to make it anonymous. By not giving the freedom for them become anonymous might also discourage people from expressing themselves and sharing with others about their different ideas.

I do think there should be a little more restrictions on the internet, especially for children at the development age. Information posted on the internet can be spread a lot faster and easier than by mail. Children can access anything on the internet, and there might be materials on there that they haven't been taught yet. and there might be materials on there that they haven't been taught yet.

During our group discussion, we all agreed that anonymity is very important, and should be protected. We all agreed that anonymous can also be dangerous. Criminals can use it to protect their crimes and accidents. They can use it to communicate about future crime plans with other criminals. But even if we banned the right to anonymity, criminals will still find other ways to communicate with each other. We all thought that anonymity was something people use to build up the courage to speak up and share their ideas without judgment. The reason the amendment protects anonymity is because it's crucial as a part of freedom of speech. Just because a few people use it for the wrong reasons, doesn't mean we should ruin it for everyone.
