I need a Mac Pro!

I've decided that the solution to my dilemma is simple. I need to buy a top-of-the-line Mac Pro, with a Dual-Xserve SAN to go with it. Throw in a few Promise RAID Arrays and I'll be a happy editor! Now, anybody want to give me the cash? No? Oh well...

Back to Sans Digital

So I'm back to a Sans Digital enclosure. I'll only get the 5-Bay version this time, but I'll get this really fast Sonnet Tech ExpressCard/34, which gives me an extra port so I can add another enclosure as I need it. I think I have a plan!

2TB WD HDDs!

Well, with the news of Western Digital's new 2TB Hard Drives, I'm starting to reconsider my options. I could get 4 of those puppies, throw them in my existing RAID, and I'd get 8TB without buying a new enclosure. The only problem I have is the current enclosure is only FireWire 800, so I'll need to do some tests to see if I can sustain the bitrate of HD with 6 simultaneous streams. This could be interesting...

More Storage than you can Shake a Stick at!

I'm trying to start a video business, and have secured my first job. In June, I will have to record a 2-day performance, with 6 cameras and 4 hours a day. In HD. I estimate that I'll need over 6TB of on-line storage to handle this amount of video, and I'm thinking of the Sans Digital TR8MB to hold 8 1TB WD SATA HDDs. This along with my other RAID should at least get me started.
