Here is a card I made recently, in the spirit of the coming holiday.
The paper cutouts of the ghost and candy are simple enough to make and
add texture to the card, making it seem less two dimensional. Then I added
the drawing of the spider and web just for fun.
For this card I used miniature stamps of animals along the outer edge of the card and letters for the message on the inner part. I also used different colored inks for some contrast and the red button embellishments at the bottom.
The card on the left is a Mother's Day card I made using a flowery theme.
Here I used both stamps and paper like flower cutouts (pre-made). The
cutouts are great because you can just buy them at a crafting store and
they can be added in quick and easy. For the bird themed Mother's Day card,
on the right, I hand drew an eclectic birdie and cut and pasted it on the
card, along with some hand cut flowers. Stamps can be used in place of the
cutouts but I like the dimension they give to the cards.
This is a Valentine's Day card I made a few years ago. The bottom of the
card is just some scrap paper that I cut to size and pasted to the card
stock. The hearts are also cut from scrap paper and put on the card using
thick foam sticky squares to make them stand out more. I chose to usually
write out my messages on cards but stamps are always a great alternative
as well.
This picture contains most of the supplies you will need to make a basic
greeting card. Good cardstock is essential, also scissors, inkpads, stamps,
scrap paper and water color blender pens (for use with water color pencils-
this inst necessary but they're one of my staples). All these are available at
most craft stores and can be relatively cheap depending on how much you
need and the quality of the products. It doesn't take a lot of effort to
make your own greeting cards, but it lets the people who receive them know
that you care enough to put the effort in.
