WebMail Auto-Reply Setup

You can set up an auto-reply on your CIS Unix account; people who send mail to your account will automatically get a message of your choice.

This document applies only to people receiving their mail on CIS Unix (including CIS Unix WebMail). Exchange users should use the "Out of Office Assistant" in Outlook for this functionality.

This page describes how to set up an auto-reply on your account within CIS Unix WebMail.

  1. If necessary, log into WebMail here, or via Blackboard.
  2. On the left-side menu, click the plus-sign-in-a-box icon next to the 'Mail' menu item, if necessary, to display its subitems.

    [Click on Mail]

  3. Click the 'Vacation' icon under 'Mail'.

    [Click on Vacation]

  4. Your browser should display the 'Change Vacation Notices' page. Default values are provided but feel free to change things as you feel appropriate.

    [Details]

  5. For security, you need to type your password to enable the auto-reply. When you've done that, and you're otherwise satisfied, hit the 'Submit' button, and you're done.

    [Details]

When and if appropriate, you can come back to the same page to remove the auto-reply by clicking the "Unset/remove vacation notice" button.

Privacy Note: You cannot specify that auto-replies go out to only selected people. You should assume that you are announcing your absence to the whole wide world, and ask yourself if that's something you really want to do.
