Nick Smith is an
associate professor of philosophy at the University of New
Hampshire. Previously a litigator at a major New York law firm
and a staff attorney for the United States Court of Appeals, he
teaches and writes on issues in law, politics, and society. He
published
I Was Wrong: The Meanings of Apologies with
Cambridge University Press in 2008. These pages contain
